Rotary Evaporator—These Process Parameters Cannot Be Ignored!

The rotary evaporator is a device that uses vacuum distillation to separate the solution and solvent by heating and diffusing the solvent within a rotating flask under negative pressure. It is suitable for concentrating trace components and for reaction processes requiring stirring.

Vacuum Rotary Evaporator Process Parameters:

1. System Vacuum Value: Vacuum is the most important process parameter for a rotary evaporator.

2. Heating Pot Temperature: The higher the heating pot temperature, the faster the solvent distillation.

3. Evaporation Flask Rotation Speed: The faster the evaporation flask rotates, the larger the wetted surface area inside the flask, resulting in a larger heated area; however, the liquid film thickness also increases, increasing the heat transfer temperature difference. There is an optimal rotation speed for materials of different viscosities.

4. Cooling Medium Temperature: To ensure optimal distillation efficiency, it is generally recommended that the cooling medium maintain a temperature difference of 40°C from the heating pot temperature to facilitate rapid condensation of the hot vapor and reduce the impact of the vapor on the system vacuum.
